Weekend Box Office: "The Nun" the latest spin-off and terrifying surprise hit in "The Conjuring" horror movie franchise was number one with $53 million, "Peppermint" the revenge action-thriller starring Jennifer Ganer was number two with $13.4 million, and "Crazy Rich Asians" the romantic comedy starring Constance Wu, Henry Golding, and Michelle Yeoh was number three with $13.1 million.

"Venom" is scheduled to open in theaters on Oct.5. Tom Hardy stars as Eddie Brock an investigative reporter that gets in over his head. He becomes infected with an alien symbiote during an investigation of the company his girlfriend works for and discovers it is both intelligent and dangerous. Disney's "The Nutcracker and The Four Realms" is scheduled to open in theaters on November 2. Inspired by E.T.A. Hoffmann's classic tale "The Nutcracker" the movie centers around Clara (Mackenzie Foy) and her discovery that a golden thread, presented to her by her godfather Drosselmeyer (Morgan Freeman) at his annual Christmas party, leads to a golden key that unlocks the doorway into another world.
