Cartoon Network will rebroadcast the "Firebreather" movie, based on the Image Comics series, on Friday, July 29 at 6:30 p.m. I highly recommend that you see it, if you haven't already. It doesn't matter if you haven't read any issues of the comic book series. The movie is so well written that it reveals everything required to explain and enjoy the movie. The animation is some of the best computer generated animation that I have seen on the small screen.
"Alphas" the upcoming Syfy series that follows a group of ordinary citzens whose brain anamolies imbue them with extraordinary mental and physical abilities. This unlikely team of would-be crimefighters, led by Dr. Leigh Rosen, investigate cases that suggest other Alpha activity and use their gifts to solve cases that seem unsolvable. "Pilot" the premiere episode of "Alphas" debuts on Syfy on Monday July 11 at 10 p.m.
The Super Hero Squad Show will return on Saturday, July 23 with two new episodes to air on Cartoon Network. The episodes entitled " The Saga of Beta Ray Bill" and "Days, Nights, and Weekends of Future Past!" are the first two parts of the "Six Against Infinity" arc. In the episode, "The Saga of Beta Ray Bill" ,Thor, determined to prove he is a true hero, bids farewell to Mjolnir and defends the Korbinites from a mysterious warlord named The Stranger. He is aided by Beta Ray Bill, a janitor on the space station. John Barrowman (Doctor Who,Torchwood) provides the voice of The Stranger. In the "Days, Nights, and Weekends of Future Past!" Falcon is thrown into another universe by the Dark Surfer and finds himself in a dark future with Sentinels everywhere, and the Scarlet Witch is now the evil Scarlet Empress! Falcon's only allies are a senile Magneto and a grizzled Reptil. The show is almost an animated version of The Super Hero Squad figures which spawned the show as opposed to a show spawning figures, the way it usually is. This series is a clever, witty winner and I look forward to new episodes.
Adrianne Palicki (Supernatural, Friday Night Lights) will reportedly play Lady Jaye in the G.I. Joe sequel from Paramount Pictures'. Palicki played the title role in the "Wonder Woman" television pilot that NBC passed on. The G.I. Joe cast will also include Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson who will play Roadblock.
Writer Neil Gaiman appeared CBS' The Late Show with Craig Ferguson last Tuesday where the two of discussed their affinity for Doctor Who. It was a feeling of peculiar power getting to write Doctor Who," Gaiman said, noting the show provided "the first mythology I ever loved." Gaiman who wrote "Sandman" for D.C. Comics Vertigo imprint, wrote the episode of Doctor Who entitled "The Doctor's Wife".
The Big News, D.C. Comics in a bold and audacious move, will launch 52 titles, some new some relaunched and revamped. 52 titles, 52 artists, and 52 writers. I sense a theme and I look forward to the teams, Justice League and Teen Titans, primarily. 52 new titles. Wow!
