Weekend Box Office - Marvel's "Guardians of the Galaxy" was number one with $21.2 million with an estimated $279 million accumulated total officially making it the number one movie of the summer, "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" came in second with $15.5 million, and in third place the teen melodrama "If I Stay" bringing $12 million.
"Kingsman: The Secret Service" based on the comic book by Mark Millar and Dave Gibbons and directed by Matthew Vaughn ("Kick-Ass", "X-Men: The First Class") is about a super secret spy organization that recruits a promising, but rough-edged street kid into its highly competitive training program just as a crisis is brewing. The movies stars Colin Firth, Michael Caine, and Samuel L. Jackson. For more insight check out the trailer.
"Horns" stars Daniel Radcliffe of "Harry Potter" fame in a very strange role. He portrays a young man whose girlfriend is raped and murdered and while innocent of the crime, everyone believes he killed her. To add to his misery, he begins to develop what looks like devil horns growing out of his head, and supernatural powers at his command. The movie is based on the novel of the same name by Joe Hill.
"Interstellar" stars Matthew McConaughey as a widowed engineer who has to leave his two kids behind in an attempt to save all of humanity. He signs on to undertake a space mission through a wormhole in search of an inhabitable planet as salvation from an Earth suffering from dwindling resources.
"The Hobbit: The Battle of Five Armies" arrives in theaters on December 17. I am looking forward to the epic that this movie will most certainly be. If you have not seen the first two parts of this epic trilogy waste no more time and see them, December 17 will be here before you know it.
