Joss Whedon has signed on to write and direct "The Avengers" sequel. There is no immediate production date or even release date for the sequel. Whedon is helping to develop a Marvel-based TV series for ABC.

"Avengers Assemble" the animated series slated to replace "Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes" is now being referred to as a sequel to the departing show instead of an out and out reboot. That remains to be seen. "Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes" is a pitch perfect series based on the comic book. This approach to pandering to the movie audience while alienating the true fans of the comics and the characters is counterproductive, and let's be clear, that's why "Avengers Assemble" was initially touted as a reboot. There is a lot of concern about the fates of characters like "Ant-Man", "The Wasp", and "The Black Panther" who currently have no presence in "The Avengers" movie, but are strongly represented in "Avengers: Earth's Mighiest Heroes". Only time will tell if the new show can even hold a candle to the what clearly is an awesome animated series.
